Updating Route and Waypoints

how to

If you are plotting a trip with routes, the default is that it will plot the fastest route by the chosen mode of transport. We all know however that the fastest route is not always the most scenic, so there will be times when you will want to edit the route displayed.

  1. In the right-hand panel, click on the pencil icon next to the route between the 2 stops.
  2. Hover your cursor over the blue line until you see the blue pin marker appear. Note: If you are too far zoomed out, this will not appear, you need to zoom in further.
  3. Click and drag the line to a point you would like it to go through. This is adding a waypoint.
  4. Continue dragging the route using this method until the line follows the desired route.

These steps still use ‘auto routing’, which will still snap to the most logical path between your waypoints.

To remove or undo these waypoints, hover over them until you see the ‘remove waypoint’ label, then click.

Plotting a manual route

Instances when you might need to plot a fully manual route could include;

  • A route on water – kayak or boat
  • A route or path that doesn’t appear on the base map
